Listvyanka: Chersky Peak Viewpoint

Chersky peak is a picturesque place in Listvyanka settlement, about 700 meters (2,300 ft) above lake Baikal level. You can easily reach it taking a comfortable chairlift which is a part of a ski track near Baikal hotel. The mountain was named after an outstanding Polish scholar who compiled the first geological map of the lake, and as people say on the very top of it Chersky used to sit and ponder contemplating the absolute beauty of nature. Now the mountain is popular among skiers and snowboarders in winter time and amateurs of nature all year round. From this quiet and peaceful place you will be able to see famed Shaman rock, where rich sacrifices used to be offered to lake Baikal by local population. Listvyanka village itself will spread out before your eyes as well as Port Baikal settlement on the opposite bank of the Angara river. The way back from the top of the mountain may also be very relaxing and pleasant if you decide to walk down an asphalted serpentinous road running through a shady light forest.
