Baikal Irkutsk Trans Siberian

Daily Train 362/263 Irkutsk to Ulan-Bator

Timetable is below on this page

Many Trans-Siberian travelers choose to stop off along the way for sightseeing in important Russian cities, e.g Moscow, Yekaterinburg, and then Irkutsk and Ulan-Ude at Lake Baikal. For the further trip from Baikal to Mongolia one may choose Trans-Mongolian trains 3/4 and 5/6 that run three times a week or use our local train 362/263 which is the daily service from Irkutsk to Ulan Bator (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia) and back.

Train 362 departs Irkutsk railway station daily at 17:15 (Moscow time). In fact, this is not the whole train, but only 1 or 2 coaches that are pulled from Irkutsk to Naushki station at the Russia-Mongolian border by Russian domestic train. Then, after border crossing another train pulls it further to Ulan Bator. Irkutsk to Ulan Bator international coaches arrive to the final destination as a part of Mongolian train 264 at 6:10 am local time after spending 33 hours (2 nights) on the way.

For the reverse route, direct Ulan Bator-Irkutsk coaches leave Mongolian capital with train 263 at 21:10 local time, then reach the Russia-Mongolian border where they are attached to Russian train 361. It finally arrives to Irkutsk at 3:29 Moscow time (+2 nights). In the summer peak season, Irkutsk to Ulan Bator direct service includes two 2-nd class carriages with 4-berth compartments. One carriage is operated by Russian Railways (RZD), while another one is Mongolian-run with slightly less expensive ticket fares.

There is no dining car in this train. We strongly advise passengers to plan a visit to a supermarket before the departure and bring their own food supply. Most Russians take snacks, chocolates and backed goods, sandwiches, smoked chicken, etc. Hot boiled water is provided from the samovar heated by burning wood in a small stove. However, cold drinking is not availabe unless you cool off water from the heater which may take time. We suggest our clients to have, specifically, bottled water to brush teeth and to drink (it may get rather hot in the summer when coaches spend about 6-7 hours at the border waiting to be picked up).
