On the peak tourist season, the Circum-Baikal Express train departs Irkutsk railway station on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays early in the morning. It runs towards Slyudyanka settlement at the very south-western tip of the lake via the regular Trans-Siberian track. Then, the train proceeds along the old Circum-Baikal railway laid on the northern shore of the lake. Circum-Baikal express is making a few stops on the way allowing passengers to see tunnels, supporting walls, bridges built in a steep rocky shoreline, or just picnic at the lake shore. The track continues towards port Baikal settlement at the Angara river source from the lake. When the train arrives to port Baikal passengers take a ferry across the river to Listvyanka settlement located on the other side of Angara. Once in Listvyanka travelers have a choice of staying there or taking a tourist bus organized by the Railway Company to return to Irkutsk.

On Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the Circum Baikal tour follows the reverse route. Tourist bus departing from the Drama Theater in Irkutsk brings passengers to Listvyanka. There are normally two buses from Irkutsk at 8:00 and 9:00 am. (Each passenger is assigned into either one of them). Anyone may join the tour from Listvyanka as well. Tour continues with a ferry across Angara to port Baikal where group is boarding the tourist train. The train runs along the Circum Baikal railway westwards till Slyudyanka. After that, the same train continues back to Irkutsk via the modern Trans-Siberian track. The group finally reaches Irkutsk railway station late at night.
